This is Buster.
Buster came to Smiling Dog Farms with Woody. Buster and Wood were seized by Animal Control in Athens, Georgia in a cruelty case in 2009. They had been used for dog fighting.
They stayed at the Athens shelter for almost 8 months listed as "Rescue Only", which means that only a rescue group could get them out. No rescue group was willing to take them.

You’ll note the proximity of his favorite red lobster toy in the pictures. It squeaks
and he likes that a lot, so he carries it around with him. It rode with him in his
crate all the way from New England. Bosco loves his new play yard. It backs up to
a pasture with beautiful views and interesting neighbors. Amos and Ona, the resident
donkeys, came to visit on the first day. (You can’t see it in the photo, but there’s
a wire fence that separates the donkeys from Bosco’s yard by about 4’ -
We hope to find Bosco a friend to share his townhome and play yard with -

Under the circumstances, it's amazing that these two survived to 7 years of age before they were rescued. Both were in pretty bad shape. And even though both are sweet to humans, both are extremely dog aggressive.
With a lot of effort, Woody and Buster were pulled from the shelter in Georgia and transported to Rocky Mountain Dog Training in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This turned out to be a bad environment for them. They were crated most of the time and the loud noise from the many other dogs put a lot of stress on the old warriors.
Buster has a hard time walking and they both needed a warm comfy place to rest their old bodies, and spend their remaining years in peace. A Guardian Angel adopted both Woody and Buster hoping to provide them with the love they deserved.
Unfortunately, these old boys were not a good fit for their Guardian Angel’s home.
She had to continue crating them for the safety of her own dogs, which was not the
life she wanted for them. She contacted Smiling Dog Farms and we agreed to take them
and let them live out their lives in a safe and peaceful environment. Through her

Old Buster is more of an "outdoor" guy. He loves lying in the sunshine. It helps
that our climate is sort of like Tampa, Florida. It is usually in the 70’s in mid-
If you look beyond Buster, you can see Woody's townhome and play yard right next
door! Some days they would stand at their respective fences and bark menacingly at
one another, for old time's sake, I guess.
Because Buster is so strongly dog aggressive, he is not a candidate for adoption. He is actually very sweet and gentle with people, and both he and Woody have become favorites here at the farm. Buster will live out his days here at the sanctuary, happily barking and grumping at the squirrels and the birds ... And at the other dogs close by!
UPDATE: June 2011: Buster is slowing down. He still prefers to be outside and will stretch out close to the fence so he doesn’t have to get up to get loved on whenever anyone stops by his home. And he has mellowed enough to appreciate having another dog to share his townhome, so now he has a sweet little girl dog named Liesel to keep him company.
Sadly, Woody is no longer with us. He passed away quietly in his sleep early this month.
YOU Can Help
There is no such thing as a gift too small!
We have all heard that before, and there is a reason, it is completely true! Even a monthly gift of $10.00 helps greatly to support one of these dogs.
